Spring Forward: April Mini-Challenge

The first three months of 2012 weren't great for me in terms of fitness and weight loss. I didn't gain any weight, but I didn't lose any. I definitely slipped backwards in terms of cardio health and strength training. It's just a temporary setback, though, and April seems like a perfect month to jump right back in. 30 little days. Just 30! I was thinking about how to push myself, how to stay accountable during April.

April Mini-Goals:

  • Get 30 minutes (one minute for every 30 days in April, see what I did there?) of cardio every day. Some days might be more intense than other, but I want to intentionally move my body every single day. A walk around the lake, the elliptical, a yoga class, whatever. Every single day.
  • Log my food intake (accurately) every day. I've gotten into a bad grazing habit. A handful of this, a few bites of that. One little cookie here. Methinks that's adding up.
  • On that note, take my lunch 4 out of 5 days a week. Invite people to find a picnic table if they want to have lunch. This saves money AND I can more accurately track my food. Win/win, ya dig?
  • Lose 10 pounds. That's part of my second quarter 2012 goals and I really want to start strong and hit it for the month of April.

They're all small goals (well, losing 10 pounds isn't really a small goal, per se) and perhaps not the most exciting to think about or read about. Nonetheless, I need to drive this month, focus, go strong. I made great physical progress in 2011, and I don't want 2012 to slip away from me.

I'll be posting weekly updates about my progress. Do y'all want to join me? Anything you're interested in working on this month? It doesn't have to be weight loss! It could be making your bed every day (another goal of mine, actually) or cooking more meals. Let's share goals and keep each other posted, okay? Everything's better with friends.

  1. Totally with you Dallas! Love that you've broken your goals down and listed each specifically. Something I really struggle with is eating honestly - similar to what you wrote - a handful of something doesn't add up until it turns into multiple handfuls. :) I'm also training for a bike ride across Iowa this summer and really need to get my butt (and the rest of me) in gear! I want to stick to a training schedule that'll help me get ready. Let's do this!
